The day was cloudy and this image needed a substantial amount of contrast expansion to strengthen its texture and shapes. Ocean water flowing over beach sand during tidal changes sometimes creates wonderful abstract shapes. The day was cloudy and this image needed a substantial amount of contrast expansion to strengthen its texture and shapes. I increased the film development time considerably, expanded contrast even more during film scanning, and finally increased contrast more during image editing. The combination of all three contrast enhancements had the desired effect as the direction of natural illumination became apparent and the shapes became quite strong.
