"Lawrence Muehleisen Grave in Pioneer Cemetery" <br />

The history of Alaska is full of tragedy and much of it is related to difficult weather conditions. Lawrence Muehleisen was born in 1907 in California. He loved airplanes and helped build the Spirit of St Louis to carry Charles Lindbergh from New York to Paris on his historic 1927 flight. While piloting a commercial passenger flight during a bad snowstorm in 1935, Mr. Muehleisen's plane crashed near Skagway and all died. Young Lawrence was only 27. Like many headstones in Alaska's cemeteries, his tells quite a story.
