"Lower Fox Creek Schoolhouse"
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, Kansas
The 11,000 acre Z Bar Ranch became the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Blocks were cut from nearby limestone rock to construct buildings on the ranch. Ten buildings remain at the Preserve and the Lower Fox Creek School is shown in this photograph. The school was constructed in 1882 and the expression, "solid as a rock," came to mind when I saw this 131 year old building.
