Colonel Charles E. McGee earned his wings in 1943 as a Tuskegee airman and then flew fighter aircraft during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Upon retirement, he held the fighter combat record of 409 missions and received numerous awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star. Many of his missions were in P-51 fighter aircraft. This fine gentlemen was 92 years old when I photographed him beside Jeff Maples' P-51 Mustang during the 2012 Memorial Day "Salute to Veterans" airshow in Columbia, Missouri.
