"Bombardier's View in a B-25"
2012 Salute to Veterans Airshow, Columbia, Missouri

This photograph shows the bombardier's view in a B-25 "Mitchell" bomber. The B-25 began service early in World War II as a medium bomber and soon proved to be effective for strafing because of the number of its forward firing guns. The B-25 became well known when it was used for the famous Doolittle raid into Japan soon after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The famous Nordon bombsight is at the bottom center and a bomb "train" control box is at the lower left. The bombardier's 50 caliber machine gun enters the photo from the upper right and barrels of two 50 caliber machine guns that were fired by the pilots can be seen at the lower right and bottom right. The airplane was piloted by Greg Vallero and photographed at the 2012 Memorial Day Weekend "Salute to Veterans" airshow in Columbia, Missouri.
